You’re planning an amazing destination wedding; and want to add something personal for your guests. That thing that says this is our day, and we want to say thanks for coming all this way! From simple to useful and better yet, tasty, they don’t have to be extravagant, but it sure is fun when they are!
And remember, you donβt have to do anything at all. Itβs up to you, and your budget. However, if you decide to do something special, and itβs a destination wedding, make sure itβs something small, or consumable, so your guests donβt have to try and pack something they donβt have room for. Or worse yet, they packed smart and are only travelling with a walk-on suitcase!
The second thing to overcome; youβre packing and need to figure out how to either bring it along, or make sure it arrives at your destination on time, or youβre wondering if you have time, and can put it together once you get there.
If youβre making things in advance; you can always ship it to the hotel if your suitcase is just too jammed packed! Get creative, and have fun!
Mini Champagne bottles, mini mimosa sets or Gin & Tonic, or whatever your signature drink is, is always easy. You should be able to pick up both the mixer and then personalize the bottles at your destination, because thereβs always a liquor store & grocery store in most of these places. Alternatively, you can probably arrange for the hotel/resort to provide you with them (for a fee of course)
What you can do ahead of time; buy the ribbon, and make the labels, and remember to hole-punch the tags in advance so you can just run the ribbon through at your destination. You could even cut the ribbon in advance, by picking up a small bottle of each and testing to see the length youβll need. Or you can buy personalized tags here.
Seed packets of your favourite flowers or herb, with a personalized label and growing instructions, you can even make a cute pot stake with your names & wedding date on them.
Your favourite loose tea in a pretty package and a cute tea ball. Tea doesn’t weigh very much, so if you put it into little sachets, and then a plastic bag before your trip, it will stay fresh, and be easy to pop into the box upon arrival.
Another easy solution is to have clear candy bags, and depending on your destination, find yourself a candy shop or grocery store with bulk candy and go pick up a bunch. OR you can order them online (well in advance) and have them shipped to your destination hotel (making arrangements with management in advance) for your set delivery date. Try somewhere like this, though there are plenty of companies that do this.
Oriental Trading or the Candy Warehouse
If your budget is tight, buy bags of 100 tea lights from IKEA and make little sets of 3, decorating the exterior with Washi tape (15mm wide), in pretty metallic’s or your wedding colours. Then put them in organza bags or make rounds of tulle and tie them with a pretty ribbon. And of course, your personalized tag.
Luggage tags β they can be ordered in bulk, then attach your personalized label. If your wedding is small enough, splurge and have them personalized. My only suggestion is to not put your personalized names/monograms on them, people wonβt use tags with someone elseβs name on them!
French Macaroonβs in a pretty package. Since they are all the rage these days, you just have to choose the flavours. Your hotel/resort most likely makes them, so you can probably order them there, remember to do that well in advance. If they donβt offer this service, youβre bound to find them from a local pastry shop or one that specializes exclusively. This is not a product you can make in advance; theyβd need to be packaged the day before your event. However, they look spectacular and people love them.
Personalized travel candles, they are small, can easily be packed and can even be used by your guests while on vacation. Depending on how many you need, these may fall into the send in advance category!
Chocolate bars are always a hit, I mean, who doesnβt love chocolate! And thatβs find-able at your destination (just make sure itβs quality chocolate!), then all you need to do is wrap them in beautiful paper, the paper is easy to bring with you. Just go to a Michaelβs, Hobby Lobby or Paper crafting store, Iβm a big fan of the Paper Source, they have beautiful paper.
Now this one is a extravagant, for those sunny destinations. You could put together a care package of SPF lip balm, sunscreen & after-sun care. It certainly costs a bit more, but if itβs a small group, then it’s a nice way to express your appreciation. Admittedly, Iβm biased, but Mary Kay offers such an amazing product, I had to suggest it. And if you plan it right, I can get it sent directly to your hotel!
Candies, Sugared Almonds, Personalized M&Mβs, Mints, whatever makes you happy! To elevate them, put them into a tin or these adorable suitcase boxes. The suitcase box above, holds the equivalent of 2 Ferrero Roche chocolates, or a handful of personalized M&M’s!
Bottle Stoppers, again something easy to pack (or have shipped directly), and easy to personalize! Go with something that suits your location, it will give your guests a usable keepsake, reminding them of your special day and the trip as a whole!
If youβre having your ceremony outside, and itβs going to be hot, another useful and very charming gift is a hand fan. Place one on each chair before the ceremony. These ones can be customized, or find ones you like, and put a cute label with your initials and the date along the handle!
Hand-made soaps, maybe not made by you, but by a local artisan, or one of your favourite soap shops. If the bars are really large, use a sharp, hot knife to cut them in half before you wrap them and put them into personalized packaging (that helps with the budget).
Coffee, if you love coffee or are travelling to a beautiful sunny destination that grows coffee, use resealable little bags filled with fresh beans. No more than a 1/4 lb each though!
In the end, remember to make your favors reflect you and your wedding day. Whether itβs casual or formal, playful or themed. This day is yours! For more destination and wedding inspiration check out my Instagram & Pinterest.
